When discussing the future of the oil and gas industry beyond 2024, it is important to consider the unscientific use of the propaganda term "pollutant" when referring to CO2 gas. While people often label CO2 as a "Greenhouse Gas", it's important to remember that CO2 is necessary for all plant life, and mammals exhale CO2 as a natural part of their bodily functions. Therefore, labeling CO2 as a pollutant is wrong. Do Not Comply if necessary, California government officials could be informed of these facts.

Pulling a Wet String of Drill Pipe - Duane Winkler

Pulling a Wet String of Drill Pipe - Duane Winkler

 Hello Everyone!

Today is Saturday, November 30, 2024, 6:00 am MST. At report time, we still have 800’ to finish POOH, preparing to rig up Schlumberger and run open hole logs.
TD (“Total Depth”) is 15,712’ MD.
We circulated and conditioned the mud system for 8 hours yesterday, preparing the hole for logs, then had 6 hours early this morning repairing an electrical connection on the top drive.
Should be rigging up loggers later this morning.

Current plans are:
  1. Finish POOH and run open hole logs.
  2. TIH with drill pipe
  3. Circulate and condition mud to run 4½” casing.
  4. POOH LDDP (“Pull Out Of Hole   Lay Down Drill Pipeline")
  5. Run 4½” production casing
  6. Cement
  7. RDMO Rig 88

Should be logging sometime later this afternoon.

Today’s video features Mr. Duane Winkler, Wellsite Supervisor for LSOG.
During the past week or so, we have had to POOH with several “wet strings” requiring the use of a mud bucket or other mud-diverting devices.
In the video, Duane explains some of the details of pulling a wet string and how you mitigate the effects.
POOH with a wet string is no fun and can sometimes get a little messy as evidenced by the attached pictures.
Those are LSOG hardhats the guys are wearing. Underneath the mud on those hardhats are LSOG logos!

Also attached is another picture of Rosie, the rig dog, as she watches and observes the top drive and elevators descend from the derrick during a recent bit trip.

The Eagle has landed! Reached a TD (“Total Depth”) of 15,712’ MD at 1:15 am MST

 Hello Everyone!

This morning, Friday, November 29, 2024, 6:00 am MST. The Eagle has landed!

Reached a TD (“Total Depth”) of 15,712’ MD at 1:15 am MST this morning (made 376’ in 7½ hours at a P rate of 50 fph).
We found a geological marker below the bottom of the Shannon 5 sand and called it good!
We had a gas flare and gas-cut mud all the way through the Shannon 5.
For whatever reason, this was different (in a good way) from the original hole and the sidetrack.

Current plans are:
  1. Circulate and condition mud to log
  1. POOH and run open hole logs.

Should be logging some time tonight.

Today is video day!
We had a lot going on yesterday. Here are five videos

Lot’s to be thankful and grateful for here. Everyone really appreciated the meal.
One of the hands in the video remarked,
“I have not been home for Thanksgiving for the past 10 years. This is the best gathering and food I’ve had! Thank you, Lost Soldier!”

2024 11 29 Drilling the Shannon 5 !!

We had a slow, steady flare yesterday while drilling the entire Shannon 5 section.
Though not as impressive as the big flares from the previous videos, the Shannon 5 flare lasted for a steady 3 to 4 hours!
This is good! The trip gas flares only lasted 15 to 20 minutes.

A few days ago, we also had an unexpected visitor to the rig floor (see attachments).
This guy had made it up all 50+ steps to the doghouse on the floor.
He definitely surprised everyone!

These scriptures are from “God’s Word for the Oil Patch – Fuel for the Soul”

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

This morning, Thursday, November 28, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are POOH to change out a suspected mud motor failure.
The current depth is 15,336’ MD. We made 122’ yesterday, averaging 30 fph!
After only 1½ hours of drilling the mud motor failed (pressured up).
The only solution is to POOH, check the directional tools, and replace failed components.
We are currently reviewing all available data and drilling information to determine the cause(s) of the failures.

This will be another slow trip because we have to pull “a wet string”.
This means that when you break every connection, approximately 1 Bbl of mud would fall out of the drill pipe, covering the floor and anyone standing close by!
Attached are the same two pictures that were in yesterday’s report because they accurately depict what rig crews go through when pulling a wet string.
The one thing that a picture does not show is the fact that it was 15⁰ F on the floor!
You just gotta’ respect those guys on the floor for their dedication and enduring the elements!

Current plans are:
(1.)           Finish trip
(2.)           Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD) TD thru the Shannon 5!! (Hopefully reach TD today. Only need ±400’!)
(3.)           Run open hole logs.

Today’s video features video clips from the most recent bit trip.
In the video, you can also see the Rig 88 crew changing out the BHA and installing a new 6 1/8” bit.

One must always remember……………

The whole process of drilling a hole in the ground is simply the routine of solving a series of problems that will be encountered.

There will always be three different types of problems to solve with every well drilled:
  1. Drilling Rig – mechanical issues.
  2. Geological – every well is exploratory. You never know what you are going to find.
  3. People – there will always be people problems.

This well is no different. It’s pretty much “routine”.
With everything encountered on this well, things could have been much worse!
We have been Blessed with good fortune in several instances.

We all have a lot to be thankful for!
As you celebrate this Thanksgiving Day, please take time to reflect on the following scriptures from the Holy Bible:

Psalm 107:1 "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!"

Psalm 7:17 "I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High."

1 Thessalonians 5:18 "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you"

Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

Colossians 3:15 "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful."
These scriptures are from “God’s Word for the Oil Patch – Fuel for the Soul”.

Y’all have a Blessed Thanksgiving!!

Enjoy!

2024 11 27 Profiles of Courage - Michael Huber (Directional Driller)

2024 11 27 Profiles of Courage - Michael Huber (Directional Driller)

Hello Everyone!
This morning, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are back on bottom, preparing to start drilling again after a trip for what we thought was a malfunctioning RSS (“Rotary Steerable System”).
The current depth is 15,214’ MD. Did not make any hole yesterday because it took extra time to make the trip.
Extra time was required to POOH because we did not know what or where the problem was, therefore; you exercise caution while tripping out of the hole so as not to potentially make any matters worse.
Earlier, while drilling, a 1,000# pressure drop was noticed, and we did not know where is had occurred.
Turns out, there were no problems with the RSS tool, but with several pipe connections right above the RSS tool.
We actually had a “washout” right above the BHA
There was an apparent nick or ding in one of the threads of a connection where erosion started and worked its way through the entire connection.

We were very fortunate that the drill string did not part, then us having to fish out the BHA below!!
Another reason for the slow trip was the fact that we had to pull “a wet string”.
This means that when you break every connection, approximately 1 Bbl of mud would fall out of the drill pipe, covering the floor and anyone standing close by! See this picture of Troy Sanford!

The only thing that the picture does not show is that it was 20 F on the floor!
You just gotta respect those guys on the floor for their dedication and enduring the elements!

Current plans are:
(1.)           Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD) TD thru the Shannon 5!!
(2.)           Run open hole logs.

Today’s video features Mr. Michael Huber, Directional Driller for APS Directional Services.
Here, Michael describes the challenges of directional drilling in the Green Mountain area.
Please note in the rig doghouse, the computer screens and technologies utilized to maintain bit trajectory.
In the video, you can also see the Rig 88 crew changing out the BHA and installing a new 6 1/8” bit.

Enjoy!

2024 11 26 Profiles of Courage - Cody Fladeland (Derrick Hand)

This morning, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are tripping out of the hole for a malfunctioning RSS (“Rotary Steerable System”).
The current depth is 15,214’ MD. We made 529’ yesterday averaging 42 fph P rate (a substantial increase over the past several days) before the RSS failed.
Currently, POOH to change out RSS.

Please refer to the attachment.
The RSS consists of 3 adjustable pads that extend or retract with pump pressure and flow rate.
These adjustable pads contain sophisticated electronics (see top image of attachment) that literally control the direction of the bit.
One of those adjustable pads has malfunctioned.
This is nothing out of the ordinary.
Mechanical things work great when they work, and don’t work great when they don't work! It’s just part of the territory.
The advent of the RSS has had a tremendous impact on the directional drilling part of the petroleum industry.
Because of this technology, directional drilling has seen significant increases in penetration rates and trajectory accuracies.
This technology will definitely play a big part in our future development plans.

Current plans are:
(1.) Finish trip to change out RSS.
(2.) Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD) TD thru the Shannon 5!!

Today’s video features Mr. Cody Fladeland (Derrick Hand) on Rig 88.
Cody has 7 years of experience in the Rocky Mountain region.
The main responsibility of the derrick hand is proper maintenance of the mud system.
One interesting clip in this video is you can see the actual cuttings coming from the hole across the shale shaker!
One thing about Cody – he has a great attitude and is an encourager to all those around him!
He has a lot of good things to say about his crew and the Wild Mustang project!

Also attached is another one of Jacek’s pics.
Here, he is standing close to the wellbore, looking up through the derrick to the “Monkey Board”.
This shows ±15,000’ of 4” OD drill pipe racked in the derrick during a recent trip.

Enjoy!

2024 11 25 Profiles of Courage - Chad Skiba & Chance Hansen (Floor Hands)

2024 11 25 Profiles of Courage - Chad Skiba & Chance Hansen (Floor Hands)

This morning, Monday, November 25, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are just about back on bottom after a bit trip to change BHA and bit.
The current depth is 14,685’ MD. We made 69’ yesterday before the mud motor totally quit on us.
We spent the rest of the day (and evening) tripping for bit.

Current plans are:
(1.) Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD) TD thru the Shannon 3 and 5!!

Today’s video features Mr. Chad Skiba & Mr. Chance Hansen (Floor Hands) on Rig 88.
They have 6 and 13 years of experience throughout the domestic US and currently work on the same crew on Rig 88.
For that reason, Jacek decided to video both of them together.
Each crew consists of a Driller, Assistant Driller, Derrick Hand, Motor Man, and two Floor Hands.
These guys literally perform all the manual labor on the rig.
They are the backbone of all drilling operations! Without them, nothing gets done!
They are constantly on the lookout for any kind of unsafe operations and then report the same to their Driller.
My hat is off to these guys for enduring the mud and cold, and somehow managing to keep a smile on their faces (at least most of the time…..).

Also attached is another one of Jacek’s sunset pics.

Enjoy!

2024 11 24 Profiles of Courage - Darnel Monroe (Floor Hand)

This morning, Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 6:00 am MST, we are drilling 23 fph at 14,616’.Made 536’ yesterday.
Had a really good day drilling yesterday, keeping the bit on bottom for 23½ hours.
I had several small drilling breaks yesterday, and each one gave up a small shot of gas.
Currently looking for the Shannon 2 sand within the next ±100’ or so.
This is the zone that really kicked us two years ago when we drilled the original Green Mountain Federal #4 well.
This time we have enough mud weight to adequately control the well.
Mud Motor is starting to act up (differential pressure spikes).
Will probably have to trip for a new bit and mud motor today (17 to 18 hours round trip)

Current plans are:
(1.) Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD) TD thru the Shannon 5!!

Today’s video features Mr. Darnel Monroe, Floor Hand for Rig 88. Pat has 10 years of experience throughout the domestic US.
On each crew, there is a Driller, Assistant Driller, Derrick Hand, Motor Man, and two Floor Hands.
In the video you can see Darnel going through his daily checklist, checking all components of Rig 88 and performing normal maintenance.
You will also get a good look at the BOP stack currently in use.

Today, have attached a pic of “Rosie”, one of our rig dogs.
For some strange reason, she prefers the couch in one of the warm trailers on location, rather than being on the rig floor where it is 32F.

Also attached is another one of Jacek’s sunset pics.

Enjoy!

2024 11 23 Profiles of Courage - Mike Lucius (Driller)

2024 11 23 Profiles of Courage - Mike Lucius (Driller)

This morning, Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 6:00 am MST, we are drilling at 14,080’ at an average P rate of 20 fps. We are just making a hole now! We anticipate hitting the Shannon 2 sand at 14,538’. On the Green Mountain Federal #4, that was the depth where we took that first big gas kick. This time, we have an adequate mud weight (13.2 ppg) to control the anticipated abnormal pressure.

Today’s video features Mr. Michael Lucius (Driller). Michael has been on drilling rigs for over 20 years and drilled all over the world. He has been working with Earl and many of the current hand on Rig 88 for the past 15 years. Each crew has a Driller, Assistant Driller, Derrick Hand, Motor Man, and two Floor Hands.  He is one of us. All the hands you see on the rig with LSOG hard hats are part of the LSOG family – employees of LSOG. Drillers are the guys who actually run and operate the rig. They have 4 or 5 other “hands” or crew that report to him. He is responsible for “getting things done” around the rig in a safe and efficient manner. Drillers work closely with the Directional Driller to ensure the bit is drilling in the desired trajectory at maximum P rates. They are also responsible for taking charge and directing all repairs on the rig when something goes down. They carry a lot of responsibility!

Enjoy!

2024 11 22 Profiles of Courage - Jordan Pierson (Derrick Hand)

This morning, Friday, November 22, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are drilling at 13,650’ at an average P rate of 23 fph. Just making hole now! Anticipating hitting the Shannon 2 sand at 14,538’. On the Green Mountain Federal #4, that was the depth where we took that first big gas kick. This time we have an adequate mud weight to control the anticipated abnormal pressure.

Today’s video features Mr. Jordan Pierson, Derrick Hand for Rig 88. Jordan has been working on drilling rigs in the Rocky Mountain region for the past 14 years.
Derrick Hands are responsible for the upkeep and treatment of the mud system. In the video, Mr. Pierson regularly checks the viscosity and weight of the mud being pumped downhole (going in) and then likewise, checks the same properties of the mud coming out of the hole over the shale shakers. In the video, the viscosity is measured in seconds, the number of seconds it takes for 1 quart of mud to fill the cup. Jordan then weighs the mud on the scale, reading the weight in pounds per gallon, and then enters the readings into the system for permanent record. He spends most of his time talking and conferring with the driller and the mud engineer to ensure the mud system on the surface and downhole meets or exceeds company specifications. A good mud system is vital to the success of the drilling operations. It’s just like the blood in the human body. If your blood is in good shape, you will be in good shape. If your blood is in bad shape, all kinds of sickness and illness will occur. Derrick hands are also responsible for the maintenance and operation of the two large mud pumps that circulate the mud through the drill string. Mr. Pierson is very well-spoken and an encouragement to all those on his crew! Keep up the great work Jordan!

Enjoy!

2024 11 21 Mustangs near Location!

This morning, Thursday, November 21, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are still tripping for a new bit and BHA.
We are running back in the hole at 9,075’ after having to make another trip back out of the hole yesterday for a failed mud motor.
Did not make any new hole today. We are investigating the cause of a recent string of mud motor failures.
We should be back on bottom and drilling by mid-morning today.

Current plans are:
(1.)           Finish TIH with new bit and BHA
(2.)           Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD)!!

2024 11 21 Mustangs near Location!

Today’s video features the namesake(s) of our prospect – the Wild Mustangs!
A few days ago, our videographer, Jacek Bogucki, caught a small group of mustangs near the road close to the rig.
No drilling rig or oilfield stuff in today’s video – just horses!

2024 11 18 Profiles of Courage - Pat McCann (Floor Hand)

This morning, Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are drilling 20 fph at 13,269’. Made 329’ yesterday. P Rates are starting to fall off indicating bit wear and/or mud motor failure.
Will most likely have to make a bit trip today.

Current plans are:
(1.) Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD)!!

Today’s video features Mr. Pat McCann, Floor Hand for Rig 88. Pat has over 25 years of experience throughout the domestic US.
On each crew, there is a Driller, Assistant Driller, Derrick Hand, Motor Man and two Floor Hands. These guys literally perform all the manual labor on the rig.
