2024 11 23 Profiles of Courage - Mike Lucius (Driller)
This morning, Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 6:00 am MST, we are drilling at 14,080’ at an average P rate of 20 fps. We are just making a hole now! We anticipate hitting the Shannon 2 sand at 14,538’. On the Green Mountain Federal #4, that was the depth where we took that first big gas kick. This time, we have an adequate mud weight (13.2 ppg) to control the anticipated abnormal pressure.
Today’s video features Mr. Michael Lucius (Driller). Michael has been on drilling rigs for over 20 years and drilled all over the world. He has been working with Earl and many of the current hand on Rig 88 for the past 15 years. Each crew has a Driller, Assistant Driller, Derrick Hand, Motor Man, and two Floor Hands. He is one of us. All the hands you see on the rig with LSOG hard hats are part of the LSOG family – employees of LSOG. Drillers are the guys who actually run and operate the rig. They have 4 or 5 other “hands” or crew that report to him. He is responsible for “getting things done” around the rig in a safe and efficient manner. Drillers work closely with the Directional Driller to ensure the bit is drilling in the desired trajectory at maximum P rates. They are also responsible for taking charge and directing all repairs on the rig when something goes down. They carry a lot of responsibility!
Enjoy!
