Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
This morning, Thursday, November 28, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are POOH to change out a suspected mud motor failure.
The current depth is 15,336’ MD. We made 122’ yesterday, averaging 30 fph!
After only 1½ hours of drilling the mud motor failed (pressured up).
The only solution is to POOH, check the directional tools, and replace failed components.
We are currently reviewing all available data and drilling information to determine the cause(s) of the failures.
This will be another slow trip because we have to pull “a wet string”.
This means that when you break every connection, approximately 1 Bbl of mud would fall out of the drill pipe, covering the floor and anyone standing close by!
Attached are the same two pictures that were in yesterday’s report because they accurately depict what rig crews go through when pulling a wet string.
The one thing that a picture does not show is the fact that it was 15⁰ F on the floor!
You just gotta’ respect those guys on the floor for their dedication and enduring the elements!
Current plans are:
(1.) Finish trip
(2.) Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD) TD thru the Shannon 5!! (Hopefully reach TD today. Only need ±400’!)
(3.) Run open hole logs.

One must always remember……………
The whole process of drilling a hole in the ground is simply the routine of solving a series of problems that will be encountered.
There will always be three different types of problems to solve with every well drilled:- Drilling Rig – mechanical issues.
- Geological – every well is exploratory. You never know what you are going to find.
- People – there will always be people problems.
This well is no different. It’s pretty much “routine”.
With everything encountered on this well, things could have been much worse!
We have been Blessed with good fortune in several instances.
We all have a lot to be thankful for!
