2024 11 18 Profiles of Courage - Pat McCann (Floor Hand)
This morning, Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 6:00 am MST, we are drilling 20 fph at 13,269’. Made 329’ yesterday. P Rates are starting to fall off indicating bit wear and/or mud motor failure.
Will most likely have to make a bit trip today.
Current plans are:
(1.) Drill 6 1/8” hole to 15,600’ TVD (15,800’ MD)!!
Today’s video features Mr. Pat McCann, Floor Hand for Rig 88. Pat has over 25 years of experience throughout the domestic US.
On each crew, there is a Driller, Assistant Driller, Derrick Hand, Motor Man and two Floor Hands. These guys literally perform all the manual labor on the rig.
They are the backbone of all drilling operations! Without them, nothing gets done!
They are constantly on the lookout for any kind of unsafe operations and then report the same to their Driller.
My hat is off to these guys for enduring the mud and cold, and somehow managing to keep a smile on their faces (at least most of the time…..).
In the video you can see Pat going thru his daily check list, checking all components of Rig 88 and performing normal maintenance.
You also get a good look at the BOP stack currently in use.
Here, Pat checks all of the hydraulic connections connected to the stack to make sure they are fully functional should we have a Well control situation.
Enjoy!
